Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not

Here is this week’s Quote of the week:

“Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.”

– Epicurus

Darren’s Takeaway:

Easy to think of things as we enter THANKSGIVING week. I have done a lot of thinking lately about the words “Thank You” .  That is a little different from being “THANKFUL” .  It’s called “GRATITUDE”. You see, it is easy to say “thank you” when you receive something, or get what you want. It’s easy at that time to even act humble and say things like…”you shouldn’t have” when receiving a gift.  All the while you are thinking…”you should have given this to me a long time ago.”  But what is your heart doing, if you don’t get the gift you want, or the award you want, or the position you want? Or maybe your day is not going the way that you want it to go.  Truly being THANKFUL comes from the heart you have, and has nothing to do with the gift you may or may not receive.  Don’t get me wrong, saying thank you when receiving a gift is a must.  But a thankful heart remains thankful regardless of what happens today.  That is the true test.

No matter what is happening today, no matter what gift, or award you don’t get, look around you.  I bet you can find much to be thankful for.  If you ever look around and have absolutely nothing to be thankful for, please contact me, you and I will look together.

I want to take this time also… to thank God, Thank my family, and if you are on this email list.  I am Thankful for you!  I have clients, former employers, family, friends, colleagues on this list and I can’t imagine where I would be without having you as part of my journey.

Have a wonderful weekend, and a very Happy Thanksgiving.
